The Christchurch City Mission Foundation
CC24160
The Christchurch City Mission Foundation is a company of friends who have chosen to perpetuate
their lifetime support of the Mission through an enduring legacy.
The Foundation is governed by
a Board of Trustees responsible for the wise investment of the Foundation Fund. Capital is conserved
while maximizing income to be used for the work of the City Mission.
Honour in Their Lifetimes
The foundation encourages bequestors to notify the Foundation
about their bequest. To recognize and honour the Mission's benefactors during their lifetimes,
Foundation membership is open to those who have signified their intention to make a bequest. As this
decision is often private and personal the list of members is never made public.
Benefactors
are kept abreast of current development plans and the ongoing life of the Mission.
The Book of Benefactors
Members who have died are remembered in The Book of Benefactors kept in the Mission Chapel, and
their memory is celebrated in the continuing work of the City Mission.
We hope you will decide
to become a member of this special group of people.
If you're interested in what it means to leave a legacy, please get in touch with our bequest officer.

After ensuring your family, friends and others are cared for, you have the opportunity to leave a
lasting gift to the causes you are most passionate about. A bequest can take many forms – a
percentage of your estate; a fixed financial amount (although the value of such a gift can be
eroded
by inflation); assets such as land, buildings, equipment, art or shares; or a life
insurance policy. We recommend you
ask your solicitor for advice.
Bequests left to the
Christchurch City Mission under $25,000 are used to address immediate need and those over this
amount are placed with the City Mission Foundation Trust, governed by an independent Board of
Trustees. Bequests left to the Christchurch City Mission Foundation Trust go directly to the
Foundation, regardless of the amount.
The interest generated from this capital is used to help
fund the City Mission’s day to day work, such as addiction counselling and social worksupport, as
well as supporting capital projects.
Legacies have played an important part in creating the
City Mission we know today.
A generous benefactor left a house to the City Mission which became
the base for Walsh House Women’s service. Another gave funds which allowed us to purchase the
original Thorpe House for the social detoxification programme. No matter how large or small a gift
may be, we know it is given with love and purpose – by combining gifts in the Foundation we can
ensure every bequest makes a real difference.
What greater gift could you leave, than to fund
hope for those who have lost hope?
