Mobility Assistance Dogs Trust

CC24410

Our Trust was founded in 2003 and our primary objective is “to enhance the lives of people living with long-term disabilities by providing mobility dogs to increase independence, confidence, self-esteem and participation in New Zealand communities.” We achieve this goal through the following initiatives: undertaking the training of Mobility Assistance Dogs; providing Mobility Dogs to people living with disabilities and instructing them in the skills required to work with a Mobility Dog.
Along with a small dedicated staff we are supported by volunteers who help with puppy raising, walking and fundraising. Support of local communities is essential and we are grateful for the support of local businesses and individuals particularly in the areas our clients, volunteers and staff are based.
Each year we see an increase in the number of applications for Mobility Dogs from individuals living with disabilities; or their supporters, physical therapists or families. We aim to place 30 Mobility Dogs over the next three years. Our specialist Canine Team oversee initial training of our dogs by our dedicated group of puppy raisers and walkers, and also by the prisoners of Auckland Women’s and Spring Hill Men’s Corrections Facilities via our Puppies in Prison Programme.
At present we have 50+ working dogs in New Zealand communities and aim to have at least 30 trainee Mobility Dogs at various stages of our training programmes between the ages of 8 weeks and 2 years.
When you choose to leave a gift in your Will no matter how large or small we promise that your partnering with us will help make a positive impact on the lives of NZ’ers with disabilities.

If you have chosen to include Mobility Dogs in your Will, we encourage you to please let us know you have done this.

By letting us know what you have done it gives us the opportunity to thank you personally and to let you know how much we appreciate your support. Having this information is very helpful as it also allows us to plan effectively for the future.
